Killalea Regional Park Campground Amenities

The Killalea Regional Park Campground Amenities project was commissioned by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to enhance visitor facilities within one of the South Coast’s most significant natural reserves. As a popular destination for camping, surfing, and eco-tourism, the park required a new amenities building that would balance functionality, environmental sensitivity, and visitor comfort.

Sherson Architecture’s design approach responded to the site’s cultural, ecological, and recreational values. The building was conceived as a low-impact, durable, and adaptable structure that integrates to the natural landscape. Its form and materiality reflect a restrained and contextual architectural language, drawing inspiration from the coastal setting while prioritising sustainability and resilience.

The amenities provide upgraded facilities including showers, toilets, accessible amenities, and supporting infrastructure, designed to cater to diverse user groups ranging from families to school groups and surf communities. Sustainable design strategies – such as natural ventilation, solar orientation, and robust, low-maintenance materials – were central to the project, reducing operational impacts and ensuring longevity in a coastal environment.

The project exemplifies a collaborative effort between Sherson Architecture, the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, and local stakeholders, ensuring that the outcome enhances the visitor experience while respecting the ecological integrity and cultural significance of Killalea Regional Park.
