Sherson Architecture has been commissioned by Central Coast local Health District to design and document 2 Mental Health Safe Havens, 1 for each hospital campus. Many people contact emergency departments (ED) experiencing suicidal thinking, unsure of where else to go especially after hours. Emergency Departments are not always equipped to help people in this situation. An initiative started by the NSW Government will deliver 20 new services across NSW to provide an alternative to an ED during times of suicidal crisis. These Mental Health Safe Havens consist of quiet lounge spaces and private rooms so that patients can be tended to in a safe environment. Solid blackbutt timber screens are placed around the perimeter of a proposed outdoor deck that allows for outdoor space within a safe and secluded environment.
