Private Clean Energy Compost Facility, Western Sydney
A state-of-the-art Clean Energy Compost Manufacturing Facility (CECMF) at Badgerys Creek NSW is proposed to help meet the infrastructure requirements of the NSW Government’s Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041. The NSW Government have introduced new requirements for councils to provide FOGO collection services to all NSW households by 2030. This will help NSW to improve its resource recovery rates and reduce its greenhouse gas footprint.
Sherson Architecture has been engaged by Private Clean Energy Compost to design a master plan for all the compost facilities and equipment, loading and circulation. Rammed Earth walls are used as a suitable and sustainable building material, providing thermal comfort against the harsh Western Sun in Sydney’s West. Green roofing and a staff and learning hub form a strong design focus with their undulating walls and roofs providing shade. Softly landscaped footpaths in collaboration with COLA Landscape Architects encourage a curiosity about the natural bushland and form wayfinding paths for educational tours that can inform scientific and environmental learning for generations past, present and emerging.
